I took some time off at the end of last week into the weekend, so only a bit of listening last Thursday. Worked my way through the following:
R.E.M. - Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, IL 7/784
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced
Led Zeppelin - Arena, Long Beach, California 3/11/75
The R.E.M. show was included on the bonus disc of the deluxe reissue of Reckoning and is a fast, powerful, and thoroughly enjoyable early show. Hendrix' debut album needs no introduction, being one of the greatest debut albums of all time. How that must have sounded to music fans in 1966 I can only imagine (I've asked my dad about it before, and he's said it was like it was from another planet). The Zeppelin show is an excellent one from the end of their troubled 1975 US Tour...by the time they'd reached the west coast in the spring, they'd finally shaken off all of the illnesses and physical maladies that plagued the early parts of the tour and were hitting their stride.
